Fishing is an Unorganized Sector.Fishing is the main occupation for many communities who are living in coastal areas across the world.there are small scale fishermen’s and large scale fishermen's.some are part time and some are full time fishermans.among them Artisanal Fishermans are facing severe socio-economic problems.they don’t have the social security.day by day the cost of living is increasing.earlier the fishermans are used to spend only 4 hours in a day to catch the fish in the sea but in the current days they are spending extra hours to catch the fish.the reason behind this is because of the anthropogenic factors the ocean water is getting polluted and there is a decrease in the fishing grounds in the sea.because of this reason the number of fishes are reducing.the expenditure and Maintenance for fishing nets and infrastructure like fishing boats the coast is increasing.the small scale fishermen's livelihood is mainly catching fish but the investment cost is very high than what they are earning.because of lack of proper subsidies for nets and boats and increasing costs becoming the reasons for most of the fishermen’s coming out from their occupation and going with the other alternatives.the state government is giving pension of 4000 rupees for both men and women in the fishing communities but not more than that.lack of leadership in this is area is the other reason which the communities are facing.if we compare with Tamil Nadu and Kerala they have good leadership qualities which enables them to solve the problems and they can bring the solutions for those problems.
Increase in competition between Women Market Vendors,Exporters and Cycle Vendors.which reduces the opportunity for women market vendors to sell the fish and lack of landing centers for women are the other problems for them.for reaching landing centers they take 1 hour.before reaching there they used to do all their household work and reaches Landing Centers.if we cite an example here,In Pudimadaka Village women they woke up at 3 in the morning and she reaches Vizag which is 70 KM from her village.she reaches the fishing harbor by 6 in the morning by share auto without any security. And up to 10 am she will be in the harbor.by 12 noon she reaches Yellamanchali and from 2 to 8 pm she will sell the fish.after all her day long work she reaches home and she will do the remaining household chores.which means 21 hours in a day she is working for her livelihood by selling fish.
Women Street Vendors reach the fishing harbor by 3 am and around 4 in the evening they will reach their home after selling the fish door to door in the city.from morning to evening in between their working hours they will not take food and water because there are no toilet facilities for them while selling fish in the streets.the buyers they don’t care of sellers and for them the toilet facilities for women street vendors are out of the box.sometimes consuming less water dehydrates the women fish sellers in the streets and they are facing severe health problems like kidney failure.out of what they are earning they are investing 90 percent on their health. The government should consider all these problems and to bring any sort of new intervention or any kind of help with respect to these problems of small scale fishermens.
